Brockville General Hospital was approved by Ontario Health to become a Telestroke Centre for delivery of thrombolysis effective July 8,2024. Brockville is now part of a provincial network of Telestroke sites that deliver emergency stroke care with the virtual support of Telestroke Neurologists. This provincial emergency program provides emergency physicians, nurses and CT technicians in Brockville immediate access to neurologists with expertise in stroke care who can support the assessment and treatment of patients experiencing acute stroke symptoms. As such, Brockville can deliver faster access to acute stroke thrombolysis on site and closer to home. The Brockville General team is then advised by the Telestroke Neurologist whether to refer on to Kingston Health Sciences Centre for other tertiary care acute treatments if needed. Brockville General also delivers expert integrated stroke unit care for acute and rehabilitation services and a Secondary Stroke Prevention Clinic.
