The Stroke Network of Southeastern Ontario is extremely proud to share that Brockville General Hospital is now a Telestroke site. After several months of intensive clinical and technical planning, Brockville General Hospital went live with Telestroke on July 8th, 2024. Brockville General Hospital is now one of many sites in the province that uses video technology to connect with neurologists to support the delivery of thrombolysis closer to home. Thrombolysis is a clot-busting medication which when given in time, can reverse or reduce the effects of ischemic stroke. This is very exciting for Brockville and the surrounding area as we know that TIME IS BRAIN and early intervention in stroke care is critical. With Brockville General Hospital delivering thrombolysis, this allows individuals in the community to receive the clot-busting drug earlier and improves outcomes for stroke. Access to thrombolysis is now available across the region in Belleville, Kingston, and Brockville.
Brockville General Hospital recently presented six months of Telestroke data, demonstrating extraordinary efforts by the team with 13 patients receiving thrombolysis and a door-to-needle time of 38 minutes. These results show the immense efforts and work that Brockville General Hospital has undergone to prepare for this initiative. The teamwork and engagement observed at Brockville General Hospital has been outstanding with many areas supporting this work including the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Professional Practice, Diagnostic Imaging, and Information Technology.
“Congratulations to Brockville General Hospital on outstanding performance with their new Telestroke program. It is very encouraging to see them provide such an important resource for their community” ~Dr. Jin, Regional Stroke Medical Director
