Back by popular demand! The virtual LLG Community Stroke Partners Expo was held on October 27th, 2021. Twenty-two community agencies from across Lanark, Leeds and Grenville County and beyond shared information with the attending health care providers on the post-stroke services they offer to stroke survivors and their families. Once again this event was held using the University of Ottawa’s virtual conference platform, OnAir. Participants could attend the rapid podium presentations, and visit virtual ‘booths’ to have a direct conversation with the community agency representatives, access additional resources and learn more about the offered services. Community agencies represented a broad range of client and caregiver supports including financial, mental health, vocational, brain injury, rehabilitation, community exercise/recreation, Indigenous, communicative and community health.
Expo highlights included presentations by a stroke survivor, and caregiver as each described their experiences in accessing community supports and the value it has brought them. The afternoon was a solid success, with 90% of survey respondents indicating that they have a better understanding of the services, programs, tools and resources available in their community. The event also served to connect organizations to each other, as stated by one agency: “The information provided during this expo will assist our organization in reaching out to those programs which provide patient care… to provide information about programs such as ours” . One organization noted that the event identified a gap in service and they are considering opening a new location to improve their service provision! Overall, it was best summed up by one participant who said “I thought it was very well presented, lots of interesting booths/resources thanks!”
