Teams at Kingston Health Sciences Centre came together in 2019 to develop a process map for coiling of ruptured intracranial aneurysms. This was followed by the development and approval of a business case for ruptured cases which received broad input. In 2020, KHSC received its designation as a Regional Coiling Centre for ruptured cases from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. In February 2021, KHSC also received its designation from the Ministry of Health for coiling of elective non-ruptured cases. As a result of collaborative planning of clinical processes involving teams from Perioperative Services, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery and Interventional Radiology, a new elective coiling service was launched in September of 2021.
